Mutual Fund Performance Remains Positive Throughout 2024 Despite Facing External Challenges

JAKARTA, investor.id – Senior Executive Investment BNI Asset Management Faras Farish said that 2024 is a very challenging year for the mutual fund industry, especially equity mutual funds. However, throughout 2024, mutual fund performance was able to grow positively amidst various external challenges.
"Equity mutual funds have experienced many corrections due to the decline in the index, but to be fair, there are also many other asset classes that have good, positive performance," explained Faras Farish at the Beritasatu PIK 2 Office, North Jakarta, Wednesday (8/1/2025).
According to Faras, money market mutual fund products recorded solid performance and were able to report growth of 5-5.5%. This growth is very good and competitive when compared to similar instruments such as deposits.
In addition to money market mutual funds, other types of mutual funds such as fixed income and bond-based mutual funds also posted positive performance in general.
"For example, if the short duration bond index is based on corporations or government bonds, its performance is also very good. So it can book around for example 5.5-6% and that is net and in my opinion for that type of instrument its performance is very good," he explained.
However, Faras continued, the same is true for long-term government bonds which are more or less affected by market fluctuations. As a result, there may be a capital loss of around 3%. Even so, it can still be positive around 4%.
